No. 271 - 19U9 December 23 JOHN T. LEWIS & BROS. CO. TO BECOME PHILADELPHIA BRANCH Operations carried on by John T. Lewis & Bros. Co. will be conducted under the name of Philadelphia Branch, National Lead Company, effective January 1, 1950. J, W. Gardiner, Jr., has been appointed manager of the Philadelphia Branch, Pigment Division. He will direct sales of all the Company's products coming within the scope of that division and will be in charge of its sales personnel. G. A. Watts has been appointed manager of the Philadelphia Branch, Metal Division. He will direct the sale of all of the Company's metal products for the division and have charge of metal sales personnel at Philadelphia. Manufacture, warehousing and shipping operations of the Philadelphia Branch will be directed by E. R. Rowley, Company production manager. Administrative functions, including accounting, credit and purchasing, both in the office and the factory, will be under the direction of C. F. Peters, comptroller of the Philadelphia Branch. Haesele, editor of the "Waggin' Tongue", Titanium Division employee publication at the St. Louis plant, has been awarded a Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Service to ' ety in Class IV -- Safety Editorials by the National Safety Council. Only five such awards , re made by the council's Employee Publication Awards judges in 19li9 Paul Riley, editor of the "Titanox News", employee publication of the Titanium Division ; Sayreville, N. J., plant,.has received a special citation from the U. S. Treasury Department "in recognition of outstanding volunteer service to community and nation in the promotion and sale of U. S. Saving Bonds," PACIFIC COAST ERANCH VETERAN EMPLOYEE DIES Carl G. Johnson, senior active employee in years of service at the Pacific Coast Branch, died in Oakland recently. He had forty-two years of continuous Company employment. Mr. Johnson started with the Bradley Plant in Brooklyn in 1907 and transferred to the Melrose Plant in Oakland in 1918. He was employed there as an oxide furnace operator at the time of his death, Mr. Johnson was 6ii years of age and is survived by a son.
