This test was performed in order to classify this material under the Federal Hazardous Substances Labeling Act. The methods employed in the testing, evaluation and in the grading of the test material are those described in Section 1500.42 - Hazardous Substances and Articles, Administration and Enforcement Regulations, Federal Register, Vol. 38, No. 187, P. 27019, 27 September 1973. The sample was used as supplied. Six healthy young adult albino rabbits were used in this study. 0.1 gm of the experimentalmaterial was instilledinto the right eyes of the test animals while the other eyes remained untreated to serve as controls. The test material was washed from the eyes in 3 animals after 5 sec. with 200 cc of water and after 30 sec. in 3 animals with 200 cc of water. The treated eyes were examined at 1,24,48 & 72 hrs. 5 & 7 days followinginstillationof the test material into the eyes. Interpretationof the results was made in accordance with the grading system outlined in the "IllustratedGuide for Grading Eye Irritation By Hazardous Substances". The results of the tests are shown in the accompanying Table which covers each of the animals treated with the test material. 3M Company T-1395, Primary Eye Irritation Study. Conclusion: Based on the accompanying table, the subject material is not an ocular irritant within the definition of the Act-Reference: Section 1500.42 (b) (1) (2) P. 27019 and requires no cautionary labeling with respect to that section.
