Received the notes from John Koehnle relative to your telephone con versation with him this morning. So that there will be no misunder standing, may I confirm some of our thinking.
1. For all phase 1 and phase 2 gasoline (TEL) LIA, observa.tions.wi.ll be made from 4 cubic feet samples. Phase 3 gasoline (X105A) LIA, observations will be made from 2 cubic feet samples.
2. I assigned two separate sample numbers when the LIA and millipore grid were run simultaneously thinking it would help you in data processing. As you suggest, I will now assign one sample number.
3. On the mill ipore grid determination, I will discard the
backing and fold the exposed grid surface before mailing
as you suggest.

4. I will attempt to identify the activity at Yellow Cab by number of cabs bein'fueled during sampling. It will be difficult to express the amount of activity prior to sampling because of lack of manpower and time. As you know, the amount of prior activity at the pump islands may influence the observed test. By this I mean how wet the gasoline mops may be, the amount of gasoline remain ing on the floor, and the amount and degree of wetness of mop-up rags on th floor.
Suppose I did this, record every 15 minutes the number of cabs serviced at the islands from 2 PM to 2 AM* This would give you a good measure of the pump island activity but, as you know, this pattern would not be duplicated

exactly each day with Saturday being the cost active day, Friday next in activity, and Sunday the least active.
5. I will note on the AISI tapes the date and tine every day I is at the Yellow Cab garage. Since there are 3 addition&l vidcl5' separated areas involved in this program, I sb not present at any one spot on consecutive days.
6. The time to obtain one-4 cubic feet LIA sample is 9 minutes and 45 seconds. This is the present calibration using a motor driven vacuum pump and vet test meter at Yellow Cab garage. 10 minutes 5 seconds when using the aiilipors grid susultaneously. Other areas are handcranked LIA's andtake approximately 10-12 minutes,
