Proposal for Senior Air Quality Issue - 2020 phaseout of FR-22
Attachments: MDM EPA Proposal_fnl.pdf
Greetings, Mr. Wehrum:
A recent EPA News Release on National Radon Action Month included your comments and cautions regarding Radon Testing. The article was very informative.
There is another consumer crisis awaiting our seniors and citizens in undeserved communities regarding the imminent phase out of FR-22. In the summer of 2020, thousands of households in Dallas County and counties throughout the U.S. will be forced to upgrade or replace older air conditioning units. With declining disposable income, and the inability to modify or upgrade A/C systems, seniors in underserved communities face the prospect of life-threatening compromised air quality and possibly the acceleration of life-threatening respiratory challenges.
Rather than wait until a crisis erupts in the summer of 2020 wherein some Dallas citizens may be forced to evacuate their homes with summertime temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, I am seeking funding for a pilot proposal to involve stakeholders, commercial partners, the City of Dallas and AARP in a strategy and implementation plan to address this issue.
For your information, I shared this proposal with Region 6 Administrators three months ago, but cannot obtain a return phone call or response to a meeting request.
Inasmuch as this is a national issue, I would appreciate your thoughts to obtain EPA funding to assist underserved consumers or sources of state air quality funding that may be available to assist our seniors. Our goal is not to wait until the summer of 2020 when consumers go in crisis mode due to overcharging for limited supplies of FR-22 or unaffordable cool air solutions during the summer.
Please advise if you or another staff member are available to provide input on this public health/ air quality issue.
Kind regards,
