2. Editorial Subcommittee - Mr.'?.A. r..:aau informed tne
members that the Trench Company, Ets.--it S.A. uses the
English text of the Manual of Test!*: Procedures, and that
the Board of Oirectors of C.A.M.A.
decided that the
translation project should be defer;:: for the present
time. However, the question of tra*s.sting only the
abstracts was raised anew, and it was suggested that a
motion to this effect be tabled at
next meeting of the
Board. Such a motion was duly made ;*d an amount of S10S.6Q,
as quoted, was approved for said trs*!iation. The latter to
be checked by the Technical Committs- *nce completed.

3. Air Permeability Subcommittee - It
reported that the
Subcommittee had communicated with
Toronto plant of the
Canadian Johns-Manville Company Limited regarding details of
the cell for the new model Dyckerho*' spparatus. It was
mentioned that cells are not recessa:..y interchangeable and
that new model cells may not fit olcs: apparatus, but that
the new model can be considereo as a =.itable alternative.
4. Wat Classification Subcommittee - It .as reported that the T & N Wet Classification Round Robir results had been received fr.om all but one of the particips'-.s. Preliminary ana lysis of results reveal discrepancies -.hich will have to be resolved. It was also decided to submit a preliminary draft of the T & n Classifier procedure to the Q.A.M.A. ;:itorial Subcommittee for revisions and for preparation of i manuscript.
5. Fibre Strength Unit Subcommittee - I: gas stated that the Sub comm* ittee Chairman is expected to su:"it a report shortly and that good inter-laboratory reproducibility had been achieved.

The question of a::./ing correction factors to the cement, and the necessity : setting up cement blending facilities are of vital inocr*.:*ice, since reoroducible results have been shown tc be rscsndent upon uniform cement.

UNIFORM CLASSIFICATION ANC IMPING COMMITTEE

Sherbrooke Laboratory - **e new University scale of salaries was received and increases : *' about Q% are effective July 1st. This adds a total of 82,017 :: our salary cost for the year 1368-9. However, we should end 1::S about S8,0QC. under budget for salaries due to having less cers:*~el.
The Director was offers: i oosition at 813,000. per year, compared to his scheduled 810,611. (as of 1 June/68). The U.C.&G. Committee, at the July 3/68 meetirc. approved in principle an increase to 812,COO., if necessary.
To suit the University scale and salary formula the Q.A.M.A. Presi dent authorized 812,12C. :er year. Mr. Cossette has decided to stay. The approval of'the Pres.cent was formally ratified by the Directors.
The Chairman also adviss: that the U.C.&G. Committee met on July 3 and that the following points *ight be of interest to Directors:

Liaison Committee with Workmen's Z:*:ensation Beard - As provided
in section 3 of the workmen's Corps*sation Act, a Committee has
been formed to represent part of :* employers listed under Class
5, i.e. the employers members of :*; 3.M.M.A. and G.A.M.A. The
functions of this committee are tr .etch over the interest of
the Associations in the interpret!*..:n and application of the act
and to consult periodically with
W.C.8. and the employers.

So far, the members have visited t..re with the President of the
Workmen's Compensation 9oard, Judes "arineau, who welcomed the
initiative of our Associations anc :romised the entire cooperation

A) The imposition of experts incrsss9 No. 259 on all U.S. rail traffic has resulted in a Z% i~::ease on asbestos rates ef fective June 30th. This is ar ,-terim measure pending con sideration by I.C.C. of U.S.R.r.'s request for a 5$ increase.
B) rnid Atlantic Conference Truck Z:-ferance (Eastern U.S.) has tabled a proposal for new revi=;r rates on asbestos based on cost which are not acceptable :: the trade. A meeting has been arranged to discuss the -f.-.er with the Truck Operators on August 7th in Montreal.

C) The old River Plate Conference, nich disbanded last year has been reorganized into what is rzu called the Interamerican freight Conference,and a Canadii* Section comprised of seven lines of this Conference (Arger*..ne, Brodin, Columbus, Lloyd Brasileiro, Moore McCormack, Ne*..mar, Uruguyan), has been es tablished in Montreal. This is something the Association has been *fighting for soma time. T-*y are proposing a 10# increase on asbestos rates effective the 15th September. A meeting is beirRparranged to discuss this proposal at the end of August.

Two bills asserti: to by the Provincial Government on July 5 are c* interest to ths *:ning industry. Bills #48 and #49 are meant to amend the Winirc -ct and the Mining Duties Act with respect mainly to exploration, isvelopment and use of underground reservoirs, sue.as petroleum arc -atural gas. Certain clauses, however, envisage changes to the .*ing Act which concern specifically exploration a-: mining operatic--.

the Mining Act", jointly prepared with the

hold maximum to 260 deg.r. under all operating conditions.

However, it was quia- . realised that the problems of the two (2) Associations wer: tomewhat different, as well as the budgets required to carr :ut their programs.
SPECIAL MEETINGS '
