Dear Dr. Kehoe: Since writing the attached letter Wagner has telephoned and says that the naval officer in question was retired about a year ago because of very high blood pressure, which was about 240. That a few days ago he got some Ethyl Gasoline in his mouth and swallowed some of it, which caused a coughing spell to ensue and as a result an artery in his heart was ruptured, resulting in death. That Dr.Sunderland (?), who is or has been connec ted with the Standard Oil Company of California, was present last night at a meeting with some other doctors at the naval base at San Diego, at which time the deceased1s heart was exhibited and the entire subject discussed, and there was no ques tion of lead having had anything to do with the death. T h e Associated Press people have expressed a willingness to correct the article that appeared and we are hopeful of getting the naval authorities at San Diego to make a statement to the Associated Press to the effect that lead had nothing to do with death.
