BRTSm Attended a an^ci all y .convened "Safety Committee" meeting of nil 1.. to contractors, under the auspices of the I.C.I. at the request of the Chairman, Mr. T). M. Gentleman, Its nurnose was to inform the various traded of the decisions mads by this Division of the I.C.I, regarding the pi'eoatiti ons taken against Asbest.osis. These conditions w-e to govern T.C.T. personnel and any sub-contractors employed direct by I.C.I. upon insulation work, particularly with r gard to stripping. As far no construction work was concerned this was left to the discretion of the constructor though certain safeguards may be requested by the engineer to protect other trades. After tho meeting had adjourned, instructed by Mr. Gentleman to call upon Mr. .T. M. Henderson, Maintenance Manager, of the Albeton Works (H.O.C. Plant) to whom we are responsible for our maintenance oontract. Mr. Henderson then laid down the following conditions for working upon his particular plant as followsi- .) jjs* v 1 Respirators to be worn during all operations, 2.) Areas to be roped off and notices hung within five yards of operations. 3 .) Dust-proof overalls to bo worn and changed daily, also to be removed during break-periods and left on the job. 4 . Str)ipped insulation to be collected on a tarpaulin sheet, damped down, packed in polythene bogs and removed to a suitable clearing area. 5 . Glo)ves to bn worn at all times and replaced when badly worn. 6. Any)operative disobeying these instructions to be dismissed from the site immediately. With the exception of the respirators I.C.I. will.provide all the items Respirators would have been supplied by I.C.I. if requested but from the , hygenic point of view the Writer decided to utiliso the Company's issue. Regarding the new construction work, a certain 'proportion of these measures will have to be adhered to. .To what extent is not yet known and will depend upon discussion between the contractor and engineer. However certain items may well be written into the Terms and Conditions of Contract. Close liaison will be maintained by the Writer and any further developments will be .reported.
