Industrial Hygiene, Page I 1. Have you elected to have the respirable asbestos fiber sampling and/or counting done by non-Alcoans or by Alcoans? Discuss. To be performed by an Alcoan. Asbestos fiber sampling and counting is done by a Technician assigned to Environmental Control. 2. Has the initial workplace environmental monitoring survey been conducted? If not, discuss. There is one location where asbestos containing material (marinite) is worked. This work is performed irregularly and' the area was monitored in November, 1972. Other areas are checked upon notification by the maintenance department. Checking has also been done in pot repair building during Hi-Temp* cutting and pot shell dumping. *A11 future purchases will be either Skamel or asbestos-free Hi-Temp. 3. Has the initial personal monitoring survey been conducted? First personal monitoring survey made November 27, 1972. Copies of all survey reports attached. The employee was weaving the sampler while cutting the Tli-Temp block. Sampling period was 48.5 minutes. Some of the dust was visible on the filter so two slides were prepared, one as is, and the other one with the surface dust knocked off. The results are shown below.
