Looks like a good discussion for next week. Aurelia Skipwith, FWP Deputy Assistant Secretary will be taking my place. Please coordinate with her on logistics and topics. She is knowledgeable on the topics and Pam will be there as well. I apologize for the change this week. Look forward to catching up soon. As far as I understand, both of you are coming to address the meeting, which is great. I have given it a general title of "U.S. Priorities for CITES and Update from the Fish & Wildlife Service". Concerning the former, we would like to know what the U.S. priorities are of course. We also would be interested in U.S. positions on several specific topics of interest/concern as follows: Legal acquisition findings /due diligence Appropriate and acceptable destinations, including requirement to show conservation benefit Review of trade of specimens "reported" as bred in captivity Purpose codes Black Sea Dolphin Totoaba If you'd like to better understand our interests/concerns on any of these topics, I can fill you in. Finally, as mentioned in other contexts, there have been so many changes at FWS so it would be great if you can fill the Alliance members in on the organisation who is doing what (of relevance to marine mammals/zoological parks), etc. Other things of interest might be, for example, plans to move toward improvements in electronic permit processing systems etc. I hope this is helpful. We have from 9-10 blocked but if we finish earlier that is fine too. Last year, when Todd and Mary Cogliano did this panel, I presented one slide per CITES issue just to make sure everyone in the room understood the topic. I would be happy to do that again or if not please just be aware that many of the persons in the audience are not down in the weeds on CITES issues and lingo. If there is anything else from DOI/FWS perspective of relevance to our members, feel free to mention it. Following our piece will be the following (and these persons will also be present for your remarks): Office of the Secretary, USDA APHIS NMFS You are more than welcome to stay including for lunch.
