Reference: Labelling of Asbestos Rolls
Dear Mr. Banshoya:
On January 27, 1982 I received a telex from Mr. Matsumoto concerning the modifications of Mead's label affixed to all asbestos containing friction paper rolls. This communique requested several modifications to the label as follows:
1. Smaller sized labels 2. Change color from yellow to white 3. Change language from Japanese to English
I have reviewed your company's request with Mead's Corporate personnel and legal counsel. I am sorry to state that we can not alter the label to comply with your request. Mead feels that this label must remain in a size large enough and in a language native to your country if we are to comply with the legal and moral aspects specific to the Industrial Safety and Health Law and Article 57 of the Ministerial Rule relating to this law, as well as Circular Notice 170 (1975) of the Chief of Labor Standard Office.
We sincerely hope that this does not result in a serious concern but I am sure you can acknowledge the rationale for our position on the asbestos labelling.
Sincerely,
Ju..-- -----Vice President-Paper Operations
