Angustsgt* 25, Oslo Norway Dear Dr, Muller* I have been Informed that you have recently become medical consultant for the Ethyl Export Corporation in Norway," I take this occasion of making your acquaintance through correspondence, and in placing myself at your disposal as a source of whatever informa tion you may require, I should appreciate it very much if you would communicate with me from time to time if any questions arise in the medical situation with relation to leaded gasoline in Norway, I am not fully conversant with the status of the situation in Norway for when X was there last there were no activities in this field. The general policy which w have developed with regard to the handling of hygienic matters in this field is based on quit a number of years of experience in this country. From such experience we know that If the mixing equipment is properly constructed. If it is,kept in order, and If the work is done in strict accordance with the Regulations, there will be no occasion for illness or even for measureable lead absorption. It has been our purpose to plan the whole regime so as to avoid significant lead exposure. There is no reason why this should not be done. Accordingly we have tried to develop a mechanism for assuring ourselves that every set of equipment is construeted properly and that it is so policed as to maintain it in proper condition. In my point of view, the chief function of our medical consul tants is to promote continuous vigilance In matters of safety, and to detect any evidences of carelessness or Inadequacy in carrying on the work. Accordingly we have followed the policy of selecting only such men as are young, healthy and reasonably intelligent, and to watch these men by means of careful physical tests so as to detect any evidences of lead absorption, Where there illness of any kind develops among these men, I have advised the use of any measures which are necessary in arriving at a clean-cut diagnosis.
