Cole - GOB Date: April 14, 1987 Subject: Labeling of Asbestos Containing Insulating Materials ******** All insulation containing asbestos is to be labeled per Industrial Hygiene Bulletin No. 126, January 9, 1967. I have an initial supply of labels from which I - can send to you a limited supply at no charge. If you require labels, please return the attached request form. There are two sizes of self-sticking labels. The large label, R-342-58(l), is for flat surface areas. The smaller label, R-342-58, comes in rolls of 1,000 labels (2.5" long each) and is for piping, valves, etc. The following is an exert from Industrial Hygiene Bulletin No. 126 from Homer M. Cole. "In order to ensure that all employees are informed of the presence of asbestos in the worJqplace, all insulation (pipe, bulk, etc) containing asbestos is to be labeled. The label shall contain the following information: DANGER CONTAINS ASBESTOS FIBER AVOID CREATING DUST Labeling should be applied where confusion may occur, such as close to valves or flanges and adjacent to changes in direction, branches, and where pipe pass through walls, floors, or ceilings.
