ETHYL GASOLINE CORPORATION CHRYSLER BUILDING
NEW YORK, November 20, 1956
Circular Letter No, U-150
COPY FOR _______ ;_______
TO ALL DIVISION MANAGERS
Gentlemen:
From card Ho. 2 made up by the Medical Department, we find a compara tively small number of tanks have been inspected to this date.
I would call your attention to a matter of importance which was the proper tagging of all these tanks as you got around to the various terminals. Our records are very hazy on this point and a number of safety men state that they merely left the warning tags with the superintendent and we have no definite assurance that they are properly in place on the tanks. It would probably be extremely cumbersome to set up records indicating that each and every tank is properly tagged. For that reason we are taking the medical card as an indica tion that the tank has been studied and properly tagged. Each of tlie safety men is responsible for the tanks so reported. If an inspection by the Division Manager or any member of the New York office indicates that these tanks are not properly tagged, the safety man will certainly be in for criticism. Therefore, I wish you would make it clear to all that receipt of the medical card listing the tank number and detailed Information is also considered the field man's assurance that the tank is properly tagged.
We do not wish to rush this work to the extent of having our men be come careless but would point out that it seems to be going extremely slowly. Following is the list of companies and number of tanks considered properly tagged to date:
