Colman Dit ector Offlice of Incident Response 000009079 vvv LIST C: LOCATIONS TO BE INVESTIGATED This list contains locations at which the Department has reason to believe that oil or hazardous materials may have been released to the environment and therefore warrant at least a preliminary assessment. Inclusion of a location on this list does not imply that a release of oil or hazaraous materials nas oeen confirmed. What it does mean is that DEQE has received sufficient information to inoicate that an initial investigation is warranted. A preliminary assess ment will De performed for each location on this list within one year of the list's publication. This assessment will indicate whether there has been a release of oil or hazardous materials to the environment, and whether further investigation is needed. Future updates of this list will describe the outcome of investigations of locations listed here. A problem inherent in the publication of a list of locations to be investi gated, which is required by statute, is that the correct and current owner, other potentially responsible parties, the address, and the nature of the problems, if any, at the location are not known at the time of publication. Any errors which therefore may result will be corrected during.the investigation. Some locations will undoubtedly be found not to be hazardous materials disposal sites. For each location to be investigated, this list provides the following information: 8 Location Name. This is the name commonly used by DEQE staff to refer to the location, and has been included in this list solely to assist the public-in identifying locations to be investigated as specifically as possible. Frequently, the name is that of the location owner or occu pant at the time that DEQE became aware of a possible release. Where the location is vacant, or the property owner/occupant is unknown, the term "Property" has been used. When the location is known to be a resi dence, the term "Residence" has been used. Location Address. This is the most accurate description of the location available. Where known, the address includes the specific street number or cross street. Since these locations have yet to be investigated by DEQE-, the address provides no indication of the extent of a release of oil or hazardous materials, if any has occurred. Source of Information. These are described by the following codes: (1) Locations from Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liablity Inventory System (CERCLIS), a data base assembled by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These locations have not been fully investigated by either EPA or DEQE. This data base includes some locations reported to EPA in compliance with the U.S. Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, which requires that anyone with knowledge of improper disposal of hazardous substances report these to EPA. It also includes citizen complaints. (2) Other information that has been submitted voluntarily to DEQE. This includes reports submitted to DEQE summarizing site assess ments undertaken as part of real estate transfers, as well as citizen complaints received by DEQE.
