Morgan North American Asbestos 150 North Wacker Drive Corporation Chicago Illinois 60606 ( 1977 JUL + we . 7th July 1977 Dear Jerry I am grateful to you for keeping me in touch with the important factors which may affect the future of asbestos in the United States Your letter of 28th June is somewhat pessimistic but I am sufficiently aware of the position to understand the concern which you clearly express in that letter I appreciate too that you must have a feeling of isolation in Chicago and while the problems are I believe no less serious in our part of the world we do at least have the benefit of regular contact with many others who are equally concerned We had a meeting of the Executive of the Asbestos International Association yesterday and this gave me a chance to talk to John Marsh and Bob Hutcheson This organisation is getting along well in spite of the inevitable difficulty of correlating the views of representatives of so many different countries It is clear to me that one of our first tasks must be to try to organise a body of medical opinion that is prepared to stand up to Selikoff I know that you will be over in August - either en route for South Africa or on your way back - but let me repeat that I do understand your feelings - which have come through strongly in your recent letters - and if you do feel that you would with me personally at any time do not hesitate to like to disuess them get in touch and make arrangements for a short trip especially for this purpose The situation is certainly a difficult one and changes in our industry are inevitable I am quite sure however that the result will not be entirely unfavourable and that many new opportunities will emerge Yours sincerely Richard Richard Richard Dr. R.
