Bowditch, Secretary SUBJECT: Discussion Paper on Asbestos In response to the assignment the Engineering Policy i Committee approved at its meeting of February 2, 1984, the Vehicle Engineering and Safety Standards Committee developed the discussion paper, "Alternatives to the Uses of Asbestos in Motor Vehicles" (copy attached). The paper has been provided to the MVMA Occupational Safety and Health Committee for inclusion with possible MVMA comments on the Occupational Safety and Health Admini stration rulemaking proposing further limitations on permissible levels of airborne asbestos fibers. VESS recommends this discussion paper be filed with OSHA even if MVMA files no other comment on the Notice. Further, we have asked the OSHC to advise VESS of the decision on the MVMA filing.
