Ms. Jacqueline D. Greenberg Ooucher College ........... Towson, Maryland 21204
Dear Ms. Greenberg!
I am sending, under separate cover, the sample of Aroclor 1254 you requested in your letter dated January 11.
I am confused by your statement that the "PCB we are Interested in working with can be found In your product, Aroolor 1254". Aroolor 1254 Is 10036 PCB's ranging from 1 chlorine per biphenyl group up to the 8 chlorine homo logs. I am assuming you are Interested In only one of the PCB Isomers.
As you know, the chlorinated dlbenzo-p-dloxlns are not PCB's. No dioxins have been detected In any of Monsanto's Aroclors, nor, to the best of my knowledge, have they been detected In any PCB commercial mixture by other worldwide producers. Chlorinated dlbenzo furans have been identified In European material by a laboratory at the University of Utrecht. I have attached copies of two articles which I hope you find useful.
No special precautions need be followed In handling Aroclor 1254 other than the normal good hygienic practlcee all well run laboratories follow. This Includes good ventilation and personal cleanliness by the laboratory personnel. The amount of material you will receive Is so small that disposal should not pose any environmental problems.
If I can be of further service, please let me know.
Sincerely,
WBP:gw Ends.
