Dear Mr. Pavlo: My reply to your letter of September 28 has been delayed by frequent absences from my office recently, which ha$retarded my correspondence. With respect to your problem of hygienic control, you will find, I believe, that proper dealing with the situation requires that the sampling of the urine or blood of employees (the analysis of the blood is much the more useful and significant procedure) and the handling of the reports be in the hands of a physician. In any case, we require that procedure in our dealings of this type with industry. We provide the necessary containers instructions for the collection of samples, and we interpret the results, with advice as to the disposition of the individuals. We do not perform analytical services as such, for anyone, but we do consult with industry in its problems of this type, and give consultation services at thir actual cost to us. If you will let me know how I may communicate with your physician in this matter, I shall be glad to give him every assistance in serving you well in this matter. Whether urine or blood, or both, are to be analysed is a matter to be decided on the basis of appropriate information about your plant. The mere submission of samples to us, and the reporting of the findings to you will be a waste of your money and our time, unless the procedure is accompanied by a proper con sidration of your problem.
