Because the airborne particles are extremely fine, they are readily inhaled and may penetrate deeply into the respiratory system. To protect employees who do maintenance work on A-398 and R-173 systems, it is essential that they wear proper respiratory protection on the Job. They must wear, at least, a simple filter respirator haring Bureau of Mines approval for dusts with a TLV not less than 0.1 mg/M3. The three respirators listed below are examples of the many that are suitable for this application. 3M 8710 MSA Dustfoe 66 or 67 AD R910CT or R3030 i If the dust exposures are so severe as to rapidly increase the breathing resistance through the filter to an intolerable degree, a respirator with twin filters may alleviate this problem. If not, an air supplied respirator must be used. We ask that the Safety Directors, with the help of proper people at each location, propose a program to insure that employees receive proper respiratory protection while performing maintenance work on baghouses used to control potroom effluents.
