Over the past several years we have provided a great deal of scientific information related to vinyl chloride and vinylidene chloride to NIOSH. We would like to point out that Dow Chemical ceased to be a producer of vinyl bromide in early 1975, and the production plant has since been dismantled. We would be pleased to provide an opportunity for Stanford Research Institute and NIOSH personnel to visit the vinyl chloride monomer production unit at our Oyster Creek Division, near Freeport, Texas. In a recent phone conversation with Dr. Richard Thomas of SRI, June 14 was selected as a mutually acceptable date for such a visit. We will plan to have appropriate representatives from our manufacturing, toxicology, industrial hygiene and medical groups present during the visit to discuss both vinyl and vinylidene chloride. A tour of the vinyl chloride production facility is also planned. If these arrangements are acceptable, please confirm your agreement with the scheduled date. We will then finalize the details.
