Hahnfeldt represented District 33, which includes Sumter and parts of Lake and Marion counties. He distinguished himself during his 32-year career in the U.S. Navy, commanding two nuclear submarines and served as Commander of the Pacific Fleet's Strategic Submarine Squadron. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he continued to serve in leadership positions in numerous boards and committees, and was elected to the Sumter County Commission in 2012. As a symbol of respect for the memory of State Representative Don Hahnfeldt, and his service to Florida, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at halfstaff at the Sumter County Administrative Building in Wildwood, Florida, the Sumter County Courthouse in Bushnell, Florida and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.
