The Inter-Amencan Safety Council was founded and incorporated in 1938, as a non commercial, nonpolitical, and nonprofit edu cational association for the prevention of ac cidents It is the Spanish and Portuguese language counterpart of the National Safety Council
The Councd is the first and only association of its land rendering services to all industries and agencies in the Latin American countries and Spain The objectives are to prevent ac cidents--to reduce the number and seventy of accidents in everv activitv, both on the job and off the job The services which the Coun cil provides for its membeis are paid by membeiship dues and sales of the Council's monthly publications and other educational mateuals All of its work is done from the headquarters in New Jersey
Membership is open to all industries, or ganizations, institutions, oi othei groups with

two or more employees, interested in accident prevention in Latin Amenca and Spam More than 1800 plants or work locations m 22 countries are members or are using the ma terials and services of the Council In addi tion, over 300 universities, technical schools, public libraries, and the like, receive the monthly publications free of charge
Among rne services available to membeis are monthly publications, annual contest, special awards, consultation, statistical serv ice, reproduction and translation rights and participation m the election of Council offi cers In addition, the Council acts as a clear ing house of accident prevention materials available in the United States A catalog is available from the organization
