Dear Dr. Kehoe, I was very pleased indeed when Mr. Bevan informed me of the contents of your cable and I started at once to obtain competitive estimates for apparatus etc. It is now with great pleasure I reply to your letter of October 5th. Taking the points one by one, I will certainly take up the matter with regard to clinical examinations with Dr. Boldero and if we can either abolish or reduce this expenditure we shall certainly do so. It was my intention v/ith regard to apparatus to proceed on very modest lines until we have had experience of the method. I am trying to make arrangements to borrow the more expensive platinum ware until we see how we are running. Long experience in this department where we have to be very careful with our expenditure has taught me the advisability of trying things out preferably with borrowed apparatus before proceeding to spend money. I was most interested in the experiments of your associate Mr. Thamann and shall be glad to hear more. With regard to the financial situation - I shall follow your wishes in this respect and hope to submit a budget for the year 1935 by the date you suggest. I am greatly looking forward to taking on this work. The difficulties at the outset are of course very considerable but I hope to be in a position to submit to your tests in the early part of next year. I will write to you from time to time as I progress. At present I am looking for a suitable man. I sincerely hope we shall have many years of interesting work together. With kind regards.
