Cutler-Hammer IDT's PanelMate Series 500, which will be avail able in the spring of 1996, is the first low-cost product to combine expert system capability with traditional operator interface func tionality. With more than 20 different models, all designed to im prove factory efficiency, the PanelMate Series is recognized as the most complete line of operator interface products on the market. Strength in Circuit Design Eaton's engineers make use of leading-edge technologies to keep the pipeline of new and im proved products flowing. Our capabilities in microelectronic design and fabrication allow us to create controls that fit in ever-smaller packages, operate at greater temperature extremes and include fail-safe features in key components--all technical capabilities that are critical to adding intelligence to Eaton products operating in de manding applications. New Eaton microstructures--the diameter of a pencil eraser and as thin as two human hairs--can withstand several hundred degrees of temperature variation to sense para meters as precisely as desktop laboratory sensors--for a small fraction of the cost. Combining low-cost electrical circuitry with mi croprocessors--an Eaton specialty--will bring attractive new fea tures to familiar products such as the family washing machine and hand-held power tools. Customizing Products to Specific Needs Eaton's capability in application-specific integrated circuits allows us to rapidly customize a "generic'' design of a product, like a sensor, to exact customer requirements. Rather than redesigning and retooling for each customer request, we can now simply reprogram the micro processor embedded in the circuit to perform the required task. Our investments in molded circuit technology are bringing new competitiveness to how we manufacture electronic components. The Series II hydrostatic pump (top left). which will be in production this year, is ideal for mobile agricultural and construction equipment applications. Microprocessor-based, multiplexed controls give the pump the ability to interface with other vehicle on-board electronics. Other hydraulic products include the valve-in-star motor (center), which uses a radial valving system to improve performance and reduce overall size of the motor. Used on construction equipment, con' veyors, augers and similar products, the motors are effective at very low speeds. The right angle transmission (bottom) is used on commercial mowers, providing fast response, precise speed control and one-lever control of direction, speed and braking.
