Keller ""search Mr. Cumming Paton Here is some more information, relating to the story on PCB in the Hartford (Conn.) Times which Cumming Paton came across. The writer. Bill Clede, is the outdoor editor for the paper. He also has a radio show in Hartford and produces a syndicated radio sports show for Marlin Fire Arms Company which is sent to some 108 radio stations. Clede started these stories as a result of some testimony in Washington. After talking with people at the Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station, he ran some articles on DDT and the July 31 article on PCB. Clede called us last week and we sent him the position statement plus some other clips. He then called back late Friday, August 1, and talked to me for about 45 minutes on the phone. The result was a major story in Sunday's Hartford Times, copy attached. I was very apprehensive on how this outdoor editor might slant his story, but the final result couldn't have been better. Although he misquotes us slightly in several places, Clede's article is more factual and conservative than the San Francisco Chronicle story. Clede also asked for a brief interview with somebody from Monsanto for his radio show. He has already produced an interview with the analytical chemist from the state agriculture experiment station. We got a copy of this tape and it also was factual. I Reviewed this request with Wheeler and Richard (Bergen was on vacation) and we decided to comply. So Elmer and I will cut a short radio tape today and send it to Clede. TCF:mw Enclosure Tom C. Ford DSW 433709 STLCOPCB4086817 -2PS --As you may have noted. Time magazine has just established a new news department on "environment." St. Louis and Monsanto are prominently displayed in this week's issue. Time plans a story on DDT and I am sure PCB will figure in that story since the magazine already has information from us. -- TCF DSW 433710 STLCOPCB4086818
