This pro-active approach toward safety is both commendable and efficient in terms of project completion. Division engineers customarily make survey visits to evaluate machinery for possible guarding recommendations, and where circumstances permit, code exemptions. Formal training seminars and courses are offered in Columbus at the Ohio Center for Occupational Safety and Health. However, a course specifically tailored toward safety awareness in machine design is not part of the curriculum at the present time. Per our telephone conversation of August 27, 1990, I am enclosing numerous references and publications which I feel would be essential to the individual responsible for developing a training session on this topic.
