Thank you for your letter of July 19 offering me a two-year appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor of r Pharmacology ahd Toxicology, which will allow me to con tinue the research on Dr. Kehoe's data. This offer pro vides no financial support as such, however, it is es pecially generous in view of the fact that your only .re quirement in return is that I give Howard University credit for allowing me to use the University facilities. I also appreciated the opportunity to meet with you and Dr. Sperl- . ing on Monday, July 26 to discuss this matter. Because of the renovation activities at this time in your Department, we talked about a January, 1977 as a beginning date for this appointment. Dr. Kehoe and I are aware of the financial diffi culties that universities have at this time. Because Dr. Kehoe is interested in having me complete the analyses of his data, he has offered to provide me with the money which I referred to in my letter of June 29 to you. However, as we discussed, this money was to provide about 50% of my salary and research support. I had hoped that X could finance the rest of my needs' by teaching and in time by. grants and contracts. I will relate your offer to Dr. Kehoe for his approval, but I will have to explore ways of making up the rest of ' my salary for the projected period. I will also need to explore the availability of the computer capabilities at Howard that will be needed for the project. This may take several weeks before I can formally accept your offer.
