Rozand and W.C. Champion met with R. Bouffard of i Pantasote in Remington to discuss a problem of hard particles in their 315-Type Copolymer. The discussion was prompted by a complaint from MCA of excessive stamper damage (Customer Complaint IB, January 1975)* Examples of the particles submitted by MCA, as well as photomicrographs of the particles, were shown to Mr. Bouffard. The particles consisted mainly of reactor glass (5 of 15). sand (6 of 15) and burned resin (4 of 15). All were larger than 40 mesh, with the majority (8 of 15) larger than 20 mesh. Also discussed was the sampling and testing of ten cars of Pantasote resin then on our siding in Burlington. All of the cars showed the presence of reactor glass with the particles ranging in size from less than 40 mesh to greater than 20 mesh. Mr. Bouffard acknowledged the presence of glass and other contaminants but expressed surprise at their large size. He stated that Pantasote had made two process changes which should help alleviate the problem: j 1. They are no longer using manual cleaning but have gone l to high pressure water wash. * i 2.
