Seawell Gentlemen: This letter is addressed to all the companies who have participated in the MCA coordinated studies on vinyl chloride, although it only pertains to the work at the University of Louisville, which 19 companies are sponsoring. As you can tell from the attached letter, we had an excellent presen tation by Dr. Tamburro's group to the 9 companies present June 14. We will be getting a proposal for the third and final year of this research in the next 6-8 weeks. Unfortunately, written reports will come later because the research for the second year will not be completed until 1979. This unfortunate situation has resulted from the extremely long time required to get companies to commit to sponsoring this project as well as to other administrative delays. I am strongly urging that Dow's vinyl management continue to support the Louisville research. This project is beginning to produce useful information and should continue to be supported. It may be the only research being sponsored by the vinyl chloride industry. If your company is currently supporting the project, it should continue to do so. If it.is not now supporting the project, it should consider joining the third and probably the last year of vinyl chloride support. Several panel members have suggested that after the next year of support by vinyl chloride, the project be funded on a broader basis with support from several chemicals. I heard many favorable comments by those in attendance. We realize it is difficult to condense so much into a day's presentation and we appreciate the effort your group had made to present it in a manner our diverse group could follow. 1 personally feel the research presented will be of considerable value to occupational medicine and I intend to promote sponsorship of the third year when the proposal is received from your group in 6-8 weeks. Since the third year represents the last of our tentative three year commitment, broader basis for continued funding should be investi gated.
