D.'; 'Beatty, Patrick'; Lorraine Twerdok Subject: Benzene Health Effects Research Importance: High This note is to make it official, the Benzene Health Effects Research Consortium is going to proceed. We have commitments from five companies (BP, Chevron, Conoco, ExxonMobil and Shell Chemical) to provide $16.5M to initiate the project. The remaining $3.2M to fill out the proposed budget for the 5 year program will be developed over the next 1-2 years during which time we will be expanding the support base for the study. ON July 26 the Oversight Committee will have its first meeting to address organizational issues. The Communications and Technical Committees are scheduling conference calls in advance of that meeting. The planned meeting of the independent Scientific Review Panel has been postponed until September in order to allow recruitment of more members of the Panel for wider review of the protocols and to allow a round of written comments and responses prior to the meeting.
