Peltomki, , , (DG GROW) (Albert & Geiger) The meeting was requested by Albert & Geiger to discuss two topics related to chemicals legislation. With regard to the GenX (the manufacturing process for certain perfluorinated compounds) explained that data on emissions from manufacturing perfluorinated compounds are being provided to authorities as much as possible. He also claimed that Chemours are creating a new standard within the chemicals industry, focussing on a general reduction scheme for perfluorinated compounds going beyond the mere legal requirements. explained that besides emissions from manufacturing sites concerns exist among several Member States with regard to the release of perfluorinated compounds into the environment. replied that there is no data unambiguously demonstrating the hazard of the compounds resulting from the GenX technology. He added that containment investments (75 million euros) are being made to ensure that emissions from the manufacturing site are minimised, so there is no exposure in surface water. An emission reduction of 99% is aimed at. indicated that the concern is not so much related to the manufacturing of the compounds, but to the transformation products of the downstream products containing perfluorinated compounds. One Member State has submitted its intention to ECHA to prepare a restriction proposal for a particular compound (perfluorohexanoic acid) latest by 27 September 2019. He encouraged Chemours to provide information, if relevant, during the public consultation phase of the restriction procedure. stressed the importance of weighing the benefits of a particular compound against its hazards or risks and avoiding risking having to return to the use of old materials which are less performant.
