TECHNICAL A. PPG In an effort to determine the effect of various process parameters on oil absorption, all log sheet and test data on Lead Carbonate batches produced since August 1983 have been gathered and entered into the computer. We are still analyz ing these data, bat have found no significant correlations so far. PPG has offered to assist us in developing a viscosity measurement method for controlling the end point of the carbonation. We will be sending samples of slurry to their Springdale, Pa research center. Shipments to PPG this year have been: Jan. Feb, March - 77,500# 20,000# 52,000# CYW! 1-000191 3 XV. TECHNICAL (continued) B. TENNECO Volume resistivity testing was repeated on Cyastab 523- o versus Tribase XL - oiled, using the testing procedures spec ified by Tenneco (75 mil plaques, 50C) . We still find the complaint lots of 523- 0 to be equivalent to Tribase XL- oiled. The difference seen by Tenneco must be peculiar to their form ulation. Tenneco is now supplying formulation data for their com pound so we can duplicate their test procedure. C. EXTRUDATES A 100 lb. s-imple of Cyastab XW (Sulfo - Phthalate Extrudate) was made for Cerock. We have also shipped them 5000 lbs. each of Cyastab SW, TW, and CW. All of the above were 4 mm strands. Recently we witnessed a trial of another piece of equipment for producing 1 mm extrudate at Bepex, Santa Rosa, Ca. This is the equipment recommended to Howard Luke by Rohm GMBH. The trial was quite encouraging, although considerate fur ther work will be required to come up with a completely satis factory system. D. NLS Raw materials have been ordered and operating instructions written for a trial run of Normal Lead Stearate in the plant Cowles reactor. However, we have been advised as of yesterday to hold on any further work in this area. E. AUTOMATIC SAMPLING OF FINISHED GOODS Technical details of an automatic sampling system for stab ilizers are being worked out prior to submission of a job order. F. ETHYL There is some indication that the Izod impact tests run by Ethyl on samples submitted by Cyanamid were in error and they may restudy our material. Previously they had rtccepted our waxed Sulfate extrudate but then rejected the ground extrudate submitted for retrial. V000192 4 V. GENERPi A. The Metre pclitan Sanitary District of Greater Chicago (MSDG) continued to sample plants effluent. We were sampled on these dates: 2/2. 2/23, 2/29, 3/9, 3/12, 3/15/ Note that the plants effluent consisting of non- con tacting cooling water is only 25 gpm. B.
