COPY IMPERIAL OIL REFINERIES LIMITED Toronto, 2, Canada . September 22nd, 1927 Handling Ethyl Fluid Mr. A.E. Mittnacht, Sec. Treas. Ethyl Gasoline Corporation 25 Broadway New York, N.Y. Dear Sir: In connection with the reliability of masks at present in use by men in our Ethyl Mixing Department of our various Refineries. Item No. 11 of Dr. Kehoe's Rules and Regulations governing the handling of Ethyl Fluid reads as follows: "11. At least two Burrell respirators, with cannisters of activated charcoal are to be provided at each mixkng system. These respirators are to be inspected at regular intervals and the cannisters are to be changed at whatever intervals are necessary to insure their adequacy in cleansing the air breathed through them." The wording in this Clause is rather obscure and there is no definite time given which might be taken as a safe service period for these charcoal cannisters, nor is there any method of testing these cannisters given. We shall appreciate your advising more definitely the proper procedure to follow. ; Yours very truly, (Signed) C.R. Ewing S/L K 0001306
