June 11, 19L6 Dear Member: Mo sooner had your newcouncil taken office then it was faced with the serious problem arising in connection with Dr. Wallace's desire to retire as editorin-chief of the Journal sometime before July 1, 19L6. All of us naturally regret very deeply that Dr. Wallace finds this decision necessary; under his kind and efficient guidance the Journal.has extended its usefulness and prestige to a new high level. For the many sacrifices that he has made in forwarding this important activity of the Society he has our sincere appreciation and thanks. In seeking a successor to Dr. Wallace, your council, after much study and after having had the. benefit of recommendations from previous editors and also Dr. Wallace, unanimously voted in favor of Dr. McKeen Cattell, who, on being approached, kindly consented to serve on an interim basis. 'We feel that the Society is very fortunate indeed in having a man of Dr. Cattell5s ability to undertake the editor ship of our Journal, and he is sure to have the whole-hearted cooperation and best wishes of all of iris colleagues* Inasmuch as this appointment, of necessity, had to be an interim one, the matter of officially electing an editor-in-chief as called for in Article X of the Constitution will be acted on at the next annual meeting which is to be held In Chicago probably during the week of May 18,. 19U7. . Your council sincerely hopes that the manner in which it has conducted this very important and urgent matter will have the fall approbation and support of the entire membership.
