Bob Norman Johnny Masey RE: ASBESTOS USE AT LHC III A survey of the labor contracts for plant construction was done to determine the extent of asbestos use at LHC III. In general, the amount of asbestos is limited since the plant was constructed after abestos was determined to be carcinogenic. It was determined that there is no friable asbestos such as pipe or vessel insulation at LHC III. However some asbestos containing materials were used during constructiuon and the areas of potential concern are listed below: 1. Calcium Silicate insulation used prior to 1974. 2. Insulation being wrapped with roof felt containing asbestos. 3. Underground piping wrapped with coal-tar saturated asbestos. 4. Fireproofing with Pyrocrete 102. 5. Roofing coated with asbestos felt. In my opinion, LHC III does not have an asbestos problem since the use of asbestos was limited. Where asbestos was used it is bound with other material in a manner that there is not a health hazard.
