NEWS LETTER W' No. 361 January 4, 1957 ATLANTIC -- PHILADELPHIA BRANCH METAL SALES CONSOLIDATED Sales of metal and metal products of the Philadelphia Branch are being consoli dated into the Atlantic Branch, under the management of George Sathre, manager, metal division, Atlantic Branch. Russell C. KLeinecke has been transferred from Pittsburgh to the Atlantic Branch as assistant to the manager, metal division. Both changes were effective January 1. Mr. KLeinecke will be located in Philadelphia, where he will supervise metal sales, as well as purchases of metal scrap, in that area. He began his employment in 1941 with the Company in the Cleveland Branch. In 1942 he was placed in charge of metal sales. He became assistant to the manager of the branch's metal division in 1954, with headquarters in Pittsburgh. NIAGARA FALLS PLANT UNDERGOING EXPANSION The Niagara Falls plant of the Titanium Alloy Manufacturing Division is to undergo a major expansion of its manufacturing facilities. The project is scheduled for completion by July 1. The expansion is necessary to satisfy increased demand for zirconium oxide and zirconium silicates, products used in the manufacture of wall tile, ceramic ware, procelains and enamelled goods, glass polishing and refractories. A new building for the expanded production will house new equipment consisting of mills, pulverizers, mixers, dryers and tanks with necessary handling equipment. Four thousand additional kilowatts of 60 cycle power will be made available for the expansion. Titanium Alloy was incorporated in I906 in Niagara Falls and the original plant there was built in 1909* Its first product was ferro-carbon-titanium, an alloy used in the purifying and scavenging of steels. FARNHAM, HAGSTETTE AND WILSON IN NEW POSITIONS AT BAROID Harold H. Farnham has been appointed assistant to general manager, project development, Baroid Division, Ralph W. Wilson succeeds him as manager, technical sale:, and operations, and E. J. Hagstette becomes assistant to general manager of the division. Mr. Farnham began his Company career in 1929 as a chemical engineer with Baroid. In 1933 he was appointed manager of the division's Gulf Coast Division, and assistant to the general manager in 1946. He became manager, technical sales and operations, in 1953. Mr. Wilson joined Baroid in February 1935 as a field service engineer. In May of the same year he was named manager of the Houston laboratories. Mr. Wilson be came manager of the division's well logging department in 1940, and from 1942-1944 was acting Gulf Coast Division manager. Last year he became assistant manager, techni cal sales and operations. Mr. Hagstette was employed by Baroid in 1946 as a service engineer. In the following year he was appointed special assistant to the manager of Baroid's Pacific Coast Division, and in 1949 he became manager of the product procurement department. Following a leave of absence with the State Department, he was named administrative assistant in the drilling mud department in 1953 and two years later assistant to the department manager. V. -2 - HODGSON NAMED ASSISTANT CHIEF ENGINEER FOR DOEHLER-JARVIS George F. Hodgson has been appointed assistant chief engineer of the DoehlerJarvis Division, effective February 1. Joining Doehler-Jarvis in 1931 in the development department of the Batavia plant, Mr. Hodgson in 1935 was transferred to Toledo where he worked in the metal lurgical laboratory. In 1936 he waB transferred back to Batavia as plant metal lurgist, and in 1952 was made chief plant engineer. Mr. Hodgson is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. CHANGES ANNOUNCED FOR TITANIUM ALLOY" Karl B. Thews has been appointed assistant to the manager, Titanium Alloy Manu facturing Division. Daniel D. Wheeler becomes sales manager of the division, re placing Mr. Thews in that position. Mr. Thews, who has a B. S. degree in chemistry from Temple University, came to Titanium Alloy in 1934 as chief development engineer in the chemical division. In 1944 he was appointed manager of sales for TAM. Mr. Wheeler was employed in 1935 as a development engineer in the sales department. He was named assistant manager of sales for Titanium Alloy in 1946. Mr. Wheeler has a B. S. degree in ceramic engineer ing from Iowa State College and a master's degree from the University of Washington. Daniel W. Evans, assistant to the manager of TAM since 1952, retired as of January 1. He started his Company career in 1942 as staff assistant. BURKARD NAMED COMPTROLLER OF ST. LOUIS S. & R. DIVISION R. J. Burkard has been appointed comptroller of the St. Louis Smelting and Re fining Division, effective January 1. Mr. Burkard was employed in 1941 at the St. Louis Branch. In 1946 he became senior clerk and in 1950 he was named an auditor for the branch. He was transferred to the St. Louis Smelting and Refining Division in 1954 as assistant comptroller. In 1952 Mr. Burkard received a degree in accounting and economics from St. Louis University. McGILL IS ASSISTANT COMPTROLLER OF CLEVELAND BRANCH Richard F. McGill has been appointed assistant comptroller of the Cleveland Branch, effective January 1. Mr. McGill was employed by the Company in Buffalo in 1929 as an accountant. In 1949 he was transferred to the Cleveland Branch as chief accountant. He was appointed assistant to the comptroller last year. PERSONNEL CHANGES MADE AT FERNALD OPERATION Jack London has been appointed assistant director of personnel and industrial relations for National Lead Company of Ohio, contract-operators of the Atomic Energy Commission feed materials production center in Fernald, Ohio. Mr. London succeeds William B. Jones, who has assumed a position with Titanium Metals Corporation of America. George C. Smith, formerly an employment interviewer at Fernald, succeeds Mr. London as employment supervisor. Mr. London began his career with the Company in New York City in 1946. In 1951 he was appointed administrative assistant at the Perth Amboy plant, and later assis tant director of industrial relations. Two years ago he was transferred to National Lead Company of Ohio as employment supervisor. Prior to joining National Lead Company of Ohio, Mr. Smith was personnel manager of National Can Company in Hamilton, Ohio. He is a graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, where he earned a B.
