The vinyl chloride personnel monitoring results for April are attached for your review.
Three of the five jobs monitored exceeded the OSHA 1 ppm standard. The PVC polymerization operator had an exposure of 25 ppm; he entered and cleaned three auto claves while wearing a full face supplied air respirator. In the hydrocarbon vinyl plant, two jobs exceeded the 1 ppm standard. The compressor operator had an exposure of 2.9 ppm. This man collected vinyl samples while wearing a supplied air respirator. An outside machinist working in the vinyl plant had an exposure of 12 ppm. This man changed a reboiler in the area and replaced blanks in a slop drum. He noted no alarm lights and no respirator was worn. Further investigation of maintenance work in the vinyl plant is scheduled.
