I am not surprised that the Journal was unable to make us of the article for I doubted the suitability of the mat erial for your purposes, I writ you therefore not concerning that matter, but rather because I am some what Intrigued by your remark that ''The conclusions drawn would seem to go somewhat beyond the evidence." The amount of available data is of such a sort that I could not but regard my conclusions as being de cidedly conservative. It occurs to me therefor, if I did not make comparatively clear to you the Validity of these conclusions there must be something wrong with my Method of presentation. I either achieved to much brevity or too little clarity. Recognizing that the magnitude of the work which you are required to do would scarcely permit of your making detailed criticisms either In your origi nal letter or subsequently, I do not feel that I can ask for any further explanation of your statement. May I suggest therefore, that if and when you review my article on Its appearance elsewhere that you avail yourself of that opportunity to make somewhat more specific criticism than you have offered in your let ter.
