Russell 1B 030274 ASBESTOS HANDLING PROCEDURE DEMOLITION OR REMOVAL OF ASBESTOS SUSPECTED MATERIALS Whenever asbestos-suspected material is being removed from pipes, structure, equipment covers or any other locations the removal must be done under "wet" conditions. All insulation needs to be thoroughly wetted prior to removal and periodically re-wetted to prevent the release of asbestos fibers to the atmosphere. The removed asbestos must remain wet until it is placed into the approved asbestos disposal bags. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT* 1 2 3 The following protective equipment must be worn by persons whom may come into contact with any asbestos suspected materials: 1. Wilson half mask respirator equiped with a R-ll (TC-21C-141) or equivalent filter, 2. Coveralls, and any other clothing necessary to prevent exposure. 3. Gloves (other than cotton or fabric) Clothing contaminated with asbestos fibers will need to be placed into labeled plastic bags prior to laundering. Laundering of asbestos contaminated clothing shall be done so as to prevent the release of air-borne asbestos fibers. Disposable coveralls may be used and discarded in the same manner as the asbestos material.
