Tom stated it was very much worthwhile to have attended this meeting which consisted of a panel of > Ir four men -- one from Araco one fran Industrial Commission of Ohio I one from Legal Deportment of Ohio Manufacturers Assn one from Department of Health, Education and Welfare i Details of this report are given in Tom Noftle's note of 6/22/71 additional notes on this some meeting appear in a report by Phillips 6-15-71 lialph Ehlcrs reported on the legal aspects of the new law -- he stated that infor I mation is still being collected on this subject. He also reported that a doctor had written in to Ifobart Brothers requesting composition of one of our electrode II coatings in connection with sickness experienced by one of his patients. \ Ed Wiche brought up the fact that asbestos has been an item of special concern and that we have lost some business in one of our 6011 accounts because asbestos I is used in the coating. Asbestos is a material which has been used in 6010 and 60H electrode for many years. The subject of a standard request (I&B-OOS-h) was brought up - when this request is filled out it contains information on the composition of our electrodes and also a statement of threshold limit values of various coating ingredients. This form was distributed to all members of the Committee at a previous meeting. Ralph Killers stated positively that our main concern at the present time should be to get our own-plant in order to make sure that our handling of potentially hazardous materials is proper and safe, Tom Hoftie, head of the Safety Committee of Hobart Brothers, brought up his Safety Committee membership which consists of Bob Lame, Don Heffelfinger, Larry Heisey and himself. He requested that person from Engineering and a representative of the working force should be added to his Committee. It is Tom's Committee's job to Inspect the plant every six months and to uncover any unsafe or questionable areas. This Cosmittoc is in the nature of a fact finding Committee for Hobart Brothers and is closely related to the legal requirements in the Safety Lev. I One of the facts brought out was that the law provides that on inspector can come to a plant unannounced and make an inspection. A few things which he will be f looking for are: noise levels, toxicity, radioactivity, fire extinguishers, t proper clothing, first aid stations, and electrical hazards. It was the concensus of the Committee that Hobart Brothers should do everything possible to prepare ahead of tine for any inspection trip which might possibly be made to the plant. William Hobart brought up the subject of insurance inspectors and other services which Hobart Brothers has been using. At this time, Ralph Ehlerc reported on reading of a new Federal Register from the department of Labor. His remarks were that the contents of this register were of vital concern so he is supplying copies of this Register to tOJ. members of the Committee for close and careful scrutiny to see where they, might apply .to Hobart .Brothers............................. Tom Noftlo stated that as of July 1st, all employee accident records involving the services of a doctor ere being .reported regularly and these records ore being maintained from this time on -- this is also a part of the new law. At the next meeting time a schedule of areas of correction will be set up and priorities established. Management will then bo advised of those priorities of I what has to be done. It was suggested that Roger Frantz be added to the Ccnraittco as a permanent r member. William Hobart will contact Roger Frantz in this connection. The Committee closed on the note of extreme importance of this new_law and of how it will affect Hobart Brothers.
