Asbestos Fiber Standard (0.2 Fiber Per Cubic Centimeter of Air) T In the opinion of our Corporation, compliance with the subject standard is cost prohibitive. Also, the effective date of* the standard (November 17, 1986) precludes the possibility of total compliance. In addition, our existing liability burden increases with the continuance of producing this product as a result of O.S;H.A.'s statement of justi fication in issuing the almost prohibitive standard. Specifically, O.S.H.A.'s "health effects" section of the ruling states: "O.S.H.A. is aware of no instance in which exposure to a toxic substance has more,clearly demonstrated detrimental health effects on humans than has asbestos exposure." It is for these and other economic and moral reasons Carlisle's intention is to discontinue the manufacture of asbestos products. Our plan is to supply aftermarket asbestos products from inventory until __^January 1, 1987, and O.E. products through July 1, 1987 based upon customer inventory commitments. 3 i Should the Government revise the ruling to permit additional time to comply with the standards, Carlisle will reconsider this position.
