I will be the Cefic moderator during the 30 March Workshop. I discussed your message at length with 5.1.2e and we wish to propose an adapted programme that adequately addresses your comments arld concerns. You will find it attached. There are some important points I would like to make from my side: 1. There has never been any obligation for you to join our meeting, so members and downstream users are very grateful that you are ready to join, even more that you will join in person. This is highly appreciated. 2. It is well-acknowledged that this restriction proposal process started many years ago for yourselves and has been an impressive endeavour with Calls for Evidence, consultants writing reports, plus undoubtedly long discussions. it is the result of a genuine societal concern that has been clearly expressed in the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability. From the start, FPP4EU members understood the need for balanced regulatory action on PFAS. 3. The intention of the Workshop is to improve mutual trust, not to start any blaming game. Over the past 2 years, we have been creating a constructive atmosphere between industry and authorities. Proof is that 5.1.2e (DG ENV) and 5.1.2e (well-known to you, now DG GROW) will join us again during the Workshop. It will be their third workshop with us, and we always value their critical opinion and intervention. 4. All we wish to do, is to optimise the information flow from all sides. We have a large downstream users' community that is very worried, as many players have no experience with the REACH restriction process and how to respond to public consultations. Not all of them know how to adequately address the concerns and which data to assemble. This restriction proposal is unprecedented in as well the number of substances that are covered, as the number of applications that will be impacted. It brings many new players into the debate. 5. Our Workshop participants will greatly benefit from you explaining the work you did and the basic spirit and rationale behind it (without going into the detailed content). It will help them understand the logic of your proposal, the importance of e.g. increasing their efforts in looking for alternatives, and how they best document those efforts.
