Following this meeting, Bill Frick (API) provided the following briefing to members of the consortia via a conference call (Note: present on the call were representatives from Shell, Conoco, Chevron, and ExxonMobil, but not BP). 1) The bottom line is that the API executive committee did not agree to provide financial support for the study. This question was not even explicitly brought to the committee but Bill Frick thought the committee had an understanding of the funding urgency and the implicit request from the consortia. 2) Having said that, Shell (Nela) and Conoco expressed a concern regarding project finances and the need for better tracking and consortia control. So far, bad news - expected. Here is some good news: 3) In the category of great minds think alike... Dave O'Reilly (Chevron and chair of the API executive committee) agreed to convene an executive meeting or conference call of the study executive sponsors. I told them that Nancy is our executive sponsor and would be interested in paliicipating in an executive session. (Nancy: is it OK for me to forwarcj your email address and phone number to Patrick Beatty - Chevron, so he can forward them to Dave O'Reilly?). 4) Note also that Marathon Oil is sold on the value of the study, but has resisted joining the consortium because they felt 1) the entire industry (i.e., API) should fund the study and, 2) they did not like the funding formula. A follow up action for Patrick Beatty was to call Marathon and see how much they would consider contributing. I told the consortium there is a clear urgency to move on funding and project management issues because these need to be firm before the August annual meeting. A follow up conference call is scheduled for next Thursday. I hope by that time the other members of the SH ELL-MCCLU RG-064647 consortium will have contacted their executive sponsor and this can move forvvard rapidly, but I felt the familiar consortium lethargy and, again, BP was not even on the calL Meanwhile, Tarita and I will press on the finances, with a conference call with API staff on Monday.
