Hoeganaes started producing sponge Iron powder* InUlverton, New Jersey to satisfy th* growing U.3.A. metal powder* mart*', formerly aupplled largely from Hoganas, Sweden. Soon, atomized Iron, low alloy and high alloy Keel powder plant* were added to meet the demand for more tpeclallzed powder*. Hoeganaee Intend* to continue at the leading supplier of ferrou* powder* by Introducing new powder* a* developed and when needed by the Industrie* we serve. Brief description* and typical propertle* of th* Hoeganee* standard powder metallurgy grade* are given her*. Other type* of powder are obtainable tor powder metallurgy and a wide variety of use* In other Industrie*. SPONGE IRON POWDERS Sponge Iron I* produced By direct reduction of magnetite Iron ore. Controlled grinding and anneal ing of th* sponge Iron assures optimum purity and -v particle size distribution required for production J of low and medium density P/M parts. Additions of small amounts of graphite with or without copper or nickel are used to increase sintered strength. Ancore MH-100 is recommended for a majority of y P/M parts where low and medium densities will meet mechanical property requirements. This Is th* most widely used Iron powder today. .*.*' Ancormet* 101 has a combination of good compressibility, high green strength, fast carton pick up during sintering and small dimensional change. Up to 8.7 g/cm1. Its sintered strength I* superior to the strength of high compressibility powders of equal densities. Ancolov* contains 1.75% nlckaf, .8% molybdenum and 1.55% copper for medium density parts re quiring heat treatment Its smalt size change during sintering bnd heat treatment assures exceltent reproducibility of dimensions. Ancor MH-102SM with .5%. 1% or 2% sulfur is recommended for parts requiring machining after sintering. Its properties are otherwise quite similar ^ to Ancor MH-100. ATOMIZED STEEL POWDERS Ancorstesl* powders are designed for parts re quiring densities over 8.7 g/cm*. They are atomized from molten metal with each particle a homo geneous composition. Freedom from deleterious impurities and the Irregular but solid particle shape permit pressing to high densities by conventional P/M techniques or to full density by P/M hot form ing techniques. Ancorsteel 1000 Is a high compressibility powder low in carbon and oxygen content Excellent physi cal properties are obtained economically with small additions of alloys such as graphite, copper or nickel. Ancorsleel 1018 Is a carbon containing steel pow der. The prealloyed carboh permits fast sintering. It Is often used In copper-caibon mixes because of Its low growth In sintering. Ancorsteel 2000 Is an economical .45% NL .60% Mo, .30% Mn alloy for production of parts requiring hest treatment The homogeneity of the alloy con tent results In substantially greater hardenablllty than I* attainable with admixed elemental alloying powders. Ancorsteel 4600V Is a 1.8% Nl. .50% Mo. .25% Mn alloy especially designed for P/M part* which re quire higher hardenablllty than provided for with Ancorsteel 2000. Th* higher Nl content also pro vide* higher Imped strength. CABLE ADDAESS: HOEGANAES, RIVEATON. N. J/TWX710-841-OS21 MAR 001274
