Watt* This refers to your letter of November 15th with reference to our resin AIAT. This Is s straight polyvinyl acetate resin. Ve hare not tested this particular reals in our toxicological laboratories hut ve have tested some other very similar polyvinyl acetate resins by patch testing on human subjects to dstermine possible sensitising properties vlth resultant shin effect, tee of these polyvinyl acetate resins when patch tested on humans gave only a trace reaction on 2 out of 33 subjects; another gave none whatever. for practical purposes most of the resins themselves which me manufacture could be considered pfayslologleally Inert beeause of their Insolubility In bo# tissues and fluids. The materials which would have toxicological significance would be the additives to the resins to males up different resin formulations, for Instance the solvents in which come ere dissolved, or the plasticisers or stabilisers which may be added to the resin. Vonld think therefore that perhaps the more practical approach to the problem f the toxicity of the resin formulations would be s consideration of the poxielty of those materials which may be added to the resins themselves to make up the femulation. What degree of toxicity does this material have, and what are the toxic effects? 3. What are symptoms of being overcome or suffer ing from toxic poisoning from this material? 4. Would such poisoning leave permanent Impairment of functions, senses, etc. such as deafness, loss of taste, etc.? We would appreciate your sending us any manuals or other complete literature which may be available on this subject.
