Remarks
Congo In its original form, Congo is insoluble in practically all organic solvents, but when esterified shows a considerable
-^range"'of~Bolabilty^- When--thermally processed, Congo'is- adnbig-in------a wide range of coal-tar solvents, alcohols, esters, terpenes, ketones, ethers, fatty acids, and vegetable oils. Also it is then compatible with ethyl cellulose, nitrocellulose and many waxes, pitches and asphalts. Congo has found wide application in varnishes of all oil lengths, where it shows good durability and elasticity. A.t present it is being eliminated wherever possible.
East India Black East India resin has found application in dapkcolored varnishes, gloss paints, printing inks and
adhesives. Newly applied films are quite dark in color but bleach rapidly. Varnishes show good alkali resistance.
Damar, The Damars show a wide range of compatibility with resins, waxes, pitches, cellulose derivatives, alkyds, and oils. Overprint varnishes have been made which show a minimum of disc deration. To obtain complete compatibility with lacquer solvents, Damars
are "dewaxed" by removal of the beta-resene. -
