Notes on this choice... -- No issues are presently being worked by the ERP; -- There are no issues scheduled for ERP consideration before Dec 15; -- The ERP will next be asked to consider protocol & consent form changes for Control HIV testing (CC study) and SPMA analyses (ME study). Also per Patrick's note, the ERP has been advised of Baruch's resignation and their preferred course of action solicited, in order to carry forward their opinion to the Oversight Committee (see attached email). If you would prefer an earlier call, please advise your availability during the weeks of Dec 01 and Dec 08, as Consortium availability may be limited next week (11/24-28) due to extended Thanksgiving vacations. If so, can you identify a candidate ethicist for recruitment? 2) Or, should the ERP remain an independent, 2-member panel and vote a new Chair? 3) Or, given that the most active phase of ethics review was at the front-end of this study, and now that the work load on both ethics and scientific review panels has moderated, should the external panels integrate under the leadership of Jerry Rice? Both groups worked well together in this fashion at the August Asilomar meeting, and "topic lead" can be deferred to members having that specific expertise - with ethicists working ethics issues, as currently done within the science review panel for issues regarding biostatistics, molecular markers, industrial hygiene and other specialties.
