Mr. Martin completed over fifty-three years . of active, loyal and distinguished service with this company. Ha iu employed by Mr. Sharwla in 1891 to nonage tha newly acquired Calumet Itlnt Plant at Chicago, and aoted la various eapaoitias as plant manager, salasnan, bookkeeper and paint anker until 1898 whan expansion of the Bheroin-ffilUams ^ business resulted, in tha establishing of tha Western Division of which Mr. Martin w aada sanagar. In 1905, Mr. Martin oaaa to Cleveland as Manager of tha AuxUiarlee Department, directing all operations of tha ooopany's minee, aaaltars, oil Bills, white load and tint?*'.4 can plants. Later his executive supervision was broadansd to Include all manufacturing plants sad operations. In 1916 Ur. Martin was alsotad Tice President. In 1922, ha was elected President, succeeding Mr. Walter H. Cottinghaa and sarrad with great distinction in that capacity until Dseasbar, 1940 whan ha beoama Chalnaa of tha Board, the . position ha bald at the time of his death.
