The following are safety reminders for November 1979.
1. Safety showers and eye wash stations are available for emergency use in case of chemical or thermal burns; showers and eye wash stations should not be used for cleaning tools or material.
2. Pyrophoric iron sulfide scale must not be washed to the sewers since HS could be liberated. Refer to Safety Order S-113 for additional information on formation of pyrophoric iron sulfide and safe disposal procedures.
3. No-entry warnings signs and chains, where provided, must be kept in place on process units and at storage tank dikes.
4. Hearing protection requirements for high noise levels must be specified on departmental work permits. Refer to Safety Order S-124, Hearing Conservation for further details.
5. Do not use any chemical material that has been stored in an unmarked con tainer.
6. Prior to returning pump to service, always check the piping and the pump case for open bleeders or missing plugs in the pump case.
7. When lifting heavy objects, lift with your legs, not the back. Turn with your feet instead of twisting back. If the load is too heavy get someone to help you.
8. Asbestos is a health hazard when inhaled. Whenever possible, handle as bestos-containing materials in a wet state to prevent or minimize the for mation of airborne asbestos fibers. Refer to Safety Order S-125, Asbestos for additional asbestos work practices.
9. Good housekeeping is a part of everyone's job.
