Patterson The Office Safety Committee met on Friday, January 11, to assess our accomplishments since taking office in July 1978. This committee was not replaced in 1979, and since we are already into a new year, the entire committee is willing to serve out the regular term of office which will end in June 1980. Bill Delaney was appointed as chairman of the committee at its onset. He transferred to another location during the past year. Bill Bell acted as chairman of the committee at its meeting on January 11. If approval is given the committee to serve out this term, then we will present another safety program before June. It is suggested by the committee that we select one of the members to serve as acting chairman. Another idea generated in the meeting was to suggest that at least two of the present committee members be appointed to serve another year - they could be helpful to a new committee in getting off to a better start by having been aware of what was accomplished by the previous committee. One of the programs by the OSC was to invite a representative from the Poison Control Center in Galveston to make a presentation before the employees. Visual aids were used to show the many items that are poisonous in and around the home. Brochures and "Mr. Yuk" stickers were handed out and employees were encouraged to use the stickers to label those items especially attractive to youngsters. SHAC requested that the committee conduct a bicycle survey to deter mine three main questions - is a bicycle really needed, is it used in a safe manner, and is it kept in a safe condition. Attached is a copy of the questionnaire that was mailed out. Another project undertaken by the committee was to offer an oppor tunity for fire extinguisher training. A master list was used and employees were scheduled for sessions. Seven training sessions were conducted by the Fire Department, with a total of 101 persons participating. A fourth project by the Office Safety Committee was to assemble an informational-type safety booklet containing a summary of how the Plant Emergency Room operates, a section showing the emergency zones and wardens, instruction points, shelters and exits out of SC 14377 LAM014969 OSC Projects -2- January 18, 1980 the plant. Another section of the booklet contains maps for evacuation routes in the surrounding areas.
